Skullcandy Ink’d Vs. A4Tech MK-650
When one side of my A4Tech died, I bought a Skullcandy Ink’d to find out if they are actually worth the price. I brought the A4 to the retail store for a replacement and they said the replacement will be claimed after a month. So I just went to iStore to check out the earphones available. I was looking for something cheap so I grabbed the Ink’d because it was the cheapest in there. The first time I tried it, I thought – it doesn’t sound any better than the A4tech which was way cheaper! I went on using it and after about a month, was informed that the A4tech replacement is ready for pickup. So here’s what I found out:
- For the price, the MK-650 is underrated. For Php280, these are the best. The Ink’d cost me Php995!
- The Ink’d is much lighter than the A4, probably because it is plastic. It is also more comfortable in the ear and it does the job of blocking out the noise better.
- The Ink’d has a softer, more flexible cord. That is, compared to the plasticy cord that the A4 has. The effect – it does not pick up so much noise when the cord is touched or rubbed against something.
- Sound-wise, the Ink’d delivers sound better on the upper range. When I got it, I changed my equalizer settings to turn up the bass because it didn’t have so much bass as my A4. When I had the chance to compare them, I realized that the A4 has this heavier bass that masks the upper frequencies so that they are now harder to hear.
- The Ink’d comes with a lifetime warranty, or so they say. The retail store told me they only cover 6 months, and after that I have to contact the manufacturer. The A4 comes with only one year, with three months covered by the store.
In-ears are perfect for people who work out alot – they don’t fall out easily. They are also very good for those who wants to listen while traveling on public transport – they just block out sound very well that you’d feel you are in your car or something. Just don’t use it when you are walking down the street or driving. It can kill you.
Overall, I would say that you really get what you pay for. For the price difference, the MK-650 has the advantage and I would recommend it to those who don’t want to spend their whole week’s allowance on buds. For those who want the funk factor, I would recommend the Ink’d as they have the widest range of color combinations. And the logo is cool, too!
